Divine Wine Hotel – The Yeatman, Portugal

As if I didn’t enjoy drinking the stuff enough, stunning new hotel The Yeatman has now opened on the banks of the undulating Douro river at the heart of the vibrant city of Porto which not only offers to educate you in wine, open your senses to wine, explore the tastes of wine but also bathe in wine (Caudalie Vinotherapie Spa – opening soon!), sleep in vats of the stuff (empty, of course), walk through the vineyards from whence the wine comes and generally enjoy a completely delectable wine experience at the heart of one of the most exciting emerging wine destinations: sunny northern Portugal.

Executive Chef Ricardo Costa in the kitchens at The Yeatman hotel

Oddbins has recently showcased Douro Valley as a great new wine destination and Taylor’s have been talking recently about reinventing Port to attract younger consumers, all pointing to a small exciting revival of this great wine region and its delicious produce.

In the kitchens of The Yeatman hotel, Ricardo Costa – who already holds a Michelin star to his name, both in 2009 and 2010 has created a fantastic-sounding menu showcasing the best in Portuguese produce and most especially the super fresh seafood and shellfish of the Atlantic coast and judging by the pics, it certainly won’t disappoint. With 25,000 bottles to choose from in the Yeatman’s wine cellar, including rare and collector’s ports, fine vintages and a broad selection of Old and New world wines, a sommelier is on hand to guide diners and guests through the wine journey.

If I were you I’d book now… The Yeatman is hosting its first wine dinner on 2 September, sponsored by the Borges Port producers.
